Community Bible Church Associate Pastor Job Description
Purpose: To assist in advancing the mission of Community Bible Church—“to know Christ and to make Him known“—by serving as a pastor to the entire congregation, with special emphasis given to the teaching and shepherding of families.
Qualifications: The Associate Pastor will be a man called of God and set apart to the gospel ministry, in accordance with our doctrinal statement, and committed to living and serving in a manner consistent with the standards set forth in Scripture for such a leader (1 Tim 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9). Though an M.Div with 5-7 years of pastoral experience is preferred, other fitting ministry degrees and ministry experience will be considered.
Oversight: The Associate Pastor is supervised by the Senior Pastor and is accountable to the Elder Board. The Senior Pastor, in consultation with the other staff and the Elder Board, will conduct a performance evaluation and review at the beginning of each calendar year.
Salary/Benefits: The position is a full-time position with an annual salary ranging from $75,000 to $90,000 dependent upon qualifications of applicant. While the position is salaried, it is expected a typical work week will consist of 40 hours. Duties worked outside of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, count as hours worked. Annual vacation time is four weeks with the same holidays as recognized by South Dakota state government. Vacation leave needs to be approved by the board of elders. Two weeks paid sick leave per year with an additional allowance of up to 40 hours per year for family sickness. Unused sick leave may accumulate up to a total of three weeks. An additional allowance for emergencies may also be made. Health insurance and housing are not included with the position. One week per year for professional development is also included in this position. This time is not counted as vacation leave.
Responsibilities: Along with general pastoral duties like occasionally preaching on Sunday mornings, shepherding the congregation, evangelizing the community, and serving on the Elder Board as a non-voting member, this position will oversee the ministry of the church from nursery to high school graduation with special emphasis on ministry to families and equipping parents in their discipleship of their children. This pastor will work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor and the Elder Board to develop ministry strategies that focus on the unique needs of parents as their children move through each stage of development. This pastor will supervise all leaders and volunteers who serve with nursery, children, middle school, and high school. The heartbeat of this role is to have a consistent pastoral presence for the entire body, with special attention given to the families of our church.
